You can help provide life-saving care for children today.
No child should die from something we can help prevent. You can bring health and hope for children like Garang.
Every child deserves a healthy start in life. And that’s exactly what supporters like you made possible for Garang when he was in desperate need.
Just days after Garang was born, his father was killed when fighting erupted in their South Sudanese town. His mother, Acheng, fled with her children – but little else.
The 100-mile journey was difficult, and Garang was hungry. Soon he developed a fever and cough. It left him weak.
Acheng felt helpless. “I had no food and no milk to give him,” she says. She also had no medicine.
The turning point was when Garang became part of a World Vision health and nutrition program.
“I wasn’t even sure he would survive,” says Acheng. “This program has changed my life.”
Through the program, Acheng learned that her son was severely malnourished. Garang was also suffering from tuberculosis (TB), which kills more than 250,000 children in Africa every year.
Now 18 months old, Garang is recovering well. He’s receiving therapeutic feeding and nutrition supplements. And although he’s still on TB medication, he now has energy to play.
Many other children aren’t so fortunate. Today, nearly 18,000 children under five will die of mostly preventable diseases – including malnutrition, diarrhoea and malaria.
You can help provide more children like Garang with access to the essential healthcare they need to survive and thrive.
Our vital health and nutrition programs focus on the first 1,000 days (from conception until age two) – a critical period for long-term development.
With your support, we can help stop preventable deaths by ensuring mothers and children have access to medicines, health services and good nutrition. You can help make a life-saving difference for children like Garang.
Together, we can protect mothers’ health, prevent child deaths in their first vulnerable months of life and provide critical information and support to help families stay healthy and strong.
